A Rochester father was convicted of murder Tuesday in the beating death of his 9-month-old daughter.
Charlie Richmond was found guilty of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, and aggravated criminal contempt in the death of Arabella Richmond on Jan. 3, 2018, the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office..
The Monroe County Medical Examiner Office ruled she died of blunt force trauma to the head.
Richmond, 24, was arrested in Newark, Wayne County, in September 2018 by members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force. He was originally charged with first-degree manslaughter.
According to court documents, Richmond is accused of intentionally engaging in reckless conduct that created a grave risk of serious physical injury to Arabella, thereby causing her death.
Police were called to 249 Culver Road in Rochester at 8:03 a.m. Jan. 1, 2018, at 8:03 a.m. for a report of an unresponsive child. Emergency responders performed CPR and Arabella was taken to University of Rochester Medical Center for treatment, where she died two days later.
The conviction is the result of a joint investigation by the Rochester Police Department’s Major Crimes and Special Victims Unit and the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office.
